Vienna Extends Outdoor Pool Hours for Heat Relief
Vienna is extending opening hours at four outdoor pools and offering 37 free Cool Zones to help residents manage rising temperatures.
Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ) announced that the Strandbad Alte Donau, Kongreßbad, Sommerbad Laaerberg, and Brigittenauer Bad will extend their operations. From July 30 to August 2, these pools will close at 21:00 with swimming ending at 20:30. Between August 3 and August 9, closing time is set for 20:30 with swimming concluding at 20:00. Beyond these facilities, free swimming areas remain available at the Neue Donau and Alte Donau. The city also provides 37 Cool Zones, which are free-to-access rooms for cooling down without purchase requirements. Specific locations include the Wien Museum at Karlsplatz, open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, and the Haus Erlebnis Europa at Rotenturmstraße 19, open Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00.
