Austria Maintains High Terror Warning Level
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner reports a high terror warning level in Austria while advocating for new monitoring measures for threats.
Austria is currently at terror warning level five, reflecting a high general threat level for terrorist acts. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner of the ÖVP confirmed there are several hundred Islamist threats in the country, though the Ministry of the Interior reports no specific current threat indications. Karner, who spoke with Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Sunday morning, is advocating for electronic ankle monitors for Islamist threats following their prison sentences. The Office for State Protection and Intelligence (DSN) utilizes powers under the State Protection and Intelligence Service Act (SNG) to manage domestic intelligence and state protection. New legal powers to monitor the messengers of these threats are set to come into effect during the following year.
