Police Operation at Vienna's Stephansplatz Rally
Hundreds gathered at Stephansplatz for a rally on Saturday afternoon, leading to a large police operation in Vienna's city center.
A large police operation occurred at Stephansplatz in Vienna on Saturday afternoon as several hundred people participated in a demonstration called by the alliance 'Offensive gegen Rechts.' The Vienna Provincial Police Directorate had prohibited a rally titled 'Kritik an der Wiener Migrationspolitik' the previous Friday because of a conflicting assembly already registered for parts of the planned route. During the event, participants ignited pyrotechnic objects, and masked individuals stood opposite law enforcement. A group of right-wing counter-demonstrators appeared at the edge of the rally, prompting police to shield the group and provide an escort toward the subway. The prohibition of the Identitarian demonstration followed the registration of the opposing assembly in the city center.
