Doskozil Speaks Publicly After Laryngectomy
Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil spoke publicly for the first time since his April laryngectomy, debuting a new voice prosthesis.
Hans Peter Doskozil, the SPÖ Governor of Burgenland, made his first public appearance on a Friday in July 2026 following a total laryngectomy in April. After traveling to a clinic in Leipzig for the procedure due to larynx ossification and breathing difficulties, Doskozil was restricted from speaking for two months. He now utilizes a voice prosthesis that produces a deep tone and attends weekly speech therapy after starting training in early June. While a cannula is set for removal this autumn, Doskozil anticipates speaking hands-free in the future without pressing against the system. The governor confirmed he has no federal political ambitions and plans to participate in the state parliament's question time in September. Additionally, he intends to go on a bicycle tour later this autumn as his recovery continues.
