Austria Fuel Prices: Diesel Hits 1.989 Euros

On July 21, 2026, Austrian fuel prices reached 1.989 euros for diesel and 1.864 for gasoline as tax reductions continue to decrease.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the median price for diesel in Austria stood at 1.989 euros per liter, while gasoline reached 1.864 euros per liter. These figures follow a period of volatility; in the week before February 2026, gasoline was 1.52 euros and diesel was 1.57 euros, before spiking at the end of March to approximately 1.9 and 2.2 euros respectively. The government, comprised of the ÖVP, SPÖ, and Neos, introduced a 10-cent fuel price brake in April 2026 involving a mineral oil tax reduction and a margin limit. However, the tax reduction dropped from 1.7 cents in June to 0.8 cents for July. While Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer and Fuel Trade Association Director Hedwig Doloszeski oversee the sector, the margin limit was abolished in June, though stations must pass on international price drops until August.
