Court Bans FPÖ From Calling DÖW Pseudoscientific

The Austrian Supreme Court ruled the FPÖ cannot label the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance as pseudoscientific due to lack of facts.

The Austrian Supreme Court (OGH) has ruled that the FPÖ must refrain from calling the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (DÖW) "pseudoscientific," stating there is no factual basis for the claim. The June 30 decision follows an extraordinary revision granted to the DÖW after the Commercial Court dismissed the lawsuit in February 2025 and the Vienna Higher Regional Court rejected the appeal. The dispute arose in August 2023 when FPÖ security spokesperson Hannes Amesbauer and the party website labeled the DÖW a "pseudoscientific institution" after the Ministry of the Interior commissioned the DÖW, led by Andreas Kranebitter, to produce a right-wing extremism report. That report was presented in January 2025. The FPÖ is now required to publish a revocation and pay procedural costs to the DÖW.
