Ingrid Korosec Proposes Retirement Age Reform
Seniorenbund head Ingrid Korosec suggests basing retirement on years of employment and life expectancy to ensure pension sustainability.
Ingrid Korosec, head of the Seniorenbund and ÖVP member, is calling for a debate on raising the statutory retirement age. Her proposal suggests shifting from birth-date-based retirement to a system centered on years of employment, potentially requiring 40, 42, or 45 years of work. Korosec also considers coupling the retirement age to life expectancy, with incremental increases of one or two months every two to five years. While the ÖVP is discussing these ideas, Korosec does not expect a decision during the current legislative period as the proposal is not in the government program. She warns that the anchored sustainability mechanism will not be met and urges the next government to develop a flexible pension system by 2030. Her plan includes a 15-to-20-year protection period for legitimate expectations.
