Mödling Rejects FPÖ Parking Zone Initiative

The Mödling municipal council rejected an FPÖ initiative motion against parking zone expansions despite over 2,000 signatures collected.

The Mödling municipal council has declined an initiative motion by the FPÖ titled "Bürgerinitiative Nein zur Grünen Zone," which sought a public consultation on planned short-term parking zone expansions. Although the FPÖ gathered more than 2,000 signatures, City Director Raimund Schneider stated the motion failed to meet Lower Austrian Municipal Code requirements. The administration argued the request involved tasks outside the municipality's competence, specifically citing StVO provisions that would impact disabled parking, loading zones, and temporary roadwork bans. Furthermore, officials noted the motion improperly addressed taxes and that support declarations deviated from the actual text. FPÖ Chairman Harald Thau announced he is considering a complaint to the Regional Administrative Court following the rejection.
